The thing about play houses (and decks for that matter) are that they are exposed to the elements and deteriorate over time. Treated wood has been used for years for these purposes. But we gotta think about safety when it comes to our kids. Treated wood has some nasty chemicals in them and I don’t think small children should be playing on a pile of chemical saturated wood. After a year in the weather, most treated wood starts to split and splinter which tends to get stuck in little hands and feet. So for years, we have building playhouses for our precious kids made out of poison darts! I really like to build stuff for the kids out of the new plastic decking materials. It is more expensive but it will still be around for your grand kids to play on.
    Good luck with the DIY!

buy one if your not into building. 2×4 and 4×8 sheets of plywood, T111 is good and looks nice after you trim it. Cost about 25 dollars a sq ft to do it right.
